The photos above are of three nameless stuffed bears and a dog named Rose (after the flower in his mouth), and they all take up residence on my bed. I'm not entirely sure how long I've had all of the bears, but I know I got Rose in the past few years. I struggled a bit trying to find a place to take this picture, because the bears were a bit bigger than any of my other collections, and they wouldn't fit in front of any other neutral background, so I had to set them underneath a window on the top floor, which created some weird lighting, but I was able to work with it well enough in editing.
Ajar Front Door
Losing Definition (Dry Brush)
Moving Forward (Cutout)
Scribbles (Colored Pencil)
The photos above are of my collection of shoes: my boat shoes, my blue tennis shoes, my old snow boots that I used to wear nonstop, and my beloved rain boots. I thought this would be an interesting composition, because of the range in height and shape in them. I was a bit worried when I took the picture that the background, which is in front of the cabinets near my windowed back door, wouldn't be neutral enough, and the cabinets would be distracting, but I really don't think they are.
Wooden Family
Rain-Soaked Curtains (Fresco)
Loose Signal (Film Grain)
Silhouette (Neon Glow)
The still lives above are those of my wooden model doll collection. The smallest I believe used to be my mom's, which I promptly stole, and tied string to, posing it like a ballerina. The other to human models I got at random stores, and I believe my mom found the hand at a market. I have them set up around my room in the poses that are shown in the pictures, and I thought it would be interesting to not alter their poses at all, and just keep them the way they are, as they each give off their own vibe and tone. I especially like "Silhouette", because I think the neon glow filter really works for that composition, would I was admittedly a little big worried about.
Saturated Rose (watercolor)
Glitch (underpainting)
Nail Polish
Artificial Rainbow (sponge)
I really enjoy painting my nails and expressing myself through the colors, so I have a pretty large range of colors, and I thought that arranging them in color order would be an interesting composition for this still life. Not only is it colorful, but I think the different sizes and shapes of the bottles make for an interesting shot. One thing that was a little annoying, though, was that I have to blur out all the brand names and stuff so that they looked generic. I also blurred out all the bar codes just to be safe, and also because I like the look of the unmarked bottles. It was necessary, but it took longer than I would've liked.
Memories
Oversensitive (smudge stick)
Peeling Edges (poster edges)
Rushing Forth (rough pastels)
These last still lives are items I found at my late great aunts house, and they all seem to be from around the same time. The camera is from my collection of old cameras (though I doubt you'd call it a collection, as I only have four), and the portable cassette player was my great aunt's, as well as the cassettes. The cassettes shown here are a few of my favorites. As you might be able to tell, I shot this in the same place as my shoes, as well as on my dining room table. It was getting a bit dark out by this time, though, and the lighting was not the best, despite shooting directly in front of a large window. I did what I could in editing, but I'm not really happy about the last one, "Rushing Forth," if I'm being honest.
